Canadians Head South of the Border with Sights Set on World Titles

2017-09-21

The 12th edition of the biennial World Squash Doubles Championships organized by the Squash Doubles Association (SDA) and Women’s Squash Doubles Association (WSDA) Pro Tours is set to kick off today at the Racquet Club of St Louis and Missouri Athletic Club.  From September 21-24, hardball doubles duos from around the world will hit the courts as they compete for world titles in the Men’s, Women’s and Mixed events.

Even though earlier, the WSF predicted that the three world titles will change hands, the Canadian contingent is strong at the 2017 World Squash Doubles Championships, with many past champions back in the mix either defending or in contention for the world crowns. 5 of the 6 Canadian duos are projected to make it to the quarter-finals.

In the Mixed Pro division, Canada’s Viktor Berg and Stephanie Hewitt were 2015 World Champions and look to defend their title despite coming in as the #3 seed.

Women’s Pro competitors Stephanie Hewitt and Seanna Keating look to bring the Women’s title back to Canada.  The 2011 Women’s champs come into the 2017 edition as #3 seeds.

Three Canadian men pairs are set to compete in the 20-team Men’s Pro event.  Englishmen Michael Ferreira & Jonny Smith are projected to win the men’s title but are expected to line up against sixth-seeded Canadians Viktor Berg & Justin Todd in the quarter-finals who will surely give them a good run.
