SQUASH CANADA UNVEILS NEW LONG TERM ATHLETE DEVELOPMENT WEBSITE

OTTAWA (ON) - Squash Canada announced today the release of their new Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) Website, beyondthenick.ca in English and fr.beyondthenick.ca in French.  The website combines information contained in Squash Canada’s LTAD resource manual together with other information that will benefit players, coaches and parents. 

Squash Canada’s Executive Director Danny Da Costa commented “This website will serve the squash community tremendously. It brings much more awareness to the sport of squash plus it will improve the education of physical literacy of athletes not only in Canada but around the world”.

URBAN SQUASH TORONTO PRESENTS SQUASH THE STARS

Urban Squash (UST) Toronto presents Squash the Stars (STS) -­ NHL Edition with Tie Domi and friends. The first annual tournament is scheduled to take place inside the Natonal Squash Academy, 75 Carl Hall Road, Unit #15, Parc Downsview Park, Toronto, ON, M3K 2B6, available by telephone at (416) 635-­9200.

Squash the Stars (STS) will see NHL Legends pair up with squash professionals from around the city for the ultimate double tournament. Confirmed hockey legends who are set to participate include Tie Domi, Curtis Joseph, Nick Kypreos, Glenn Healy, and Gary Roberts.

The event is focused on spreading awareness and raising funds for Urban Squash Toronto (UST). UST is a charitable organization that combines an after-­school education program focused on developing full-­academic, athletic and personal potential with concentrated squash training to youth in underserved areas, such as the Jane & Finch community.

SQUASH CANADA ANNOUNCES PARTNERSHIP WITH WORLD LEADING TOURNAMENT SOFTWARE PLATFORM

OTTAWA (ON) – Squash Canada announced today a new partnership with Netherlands based, Visual Reality who has created and developed a world-renowned Tournament Software platform for rankings and event management.  This program is used by 3 World Federations, 15 regional Federations in 60 countries around the world.  Their products are used by millions of racquet sport athletes in 150 countries around the world.

Squash Canada will utilize the Tournament Software platform for its tournament management software, rankings and database.  Squash Canada will launch the platform in time for the start of the 2013 – 2014 squash season beginning in September.

CANADIANS READY FOR TEAM EVENT AT 2013 PAN-AMERICAN SQUASH CHAMPIONSHIPS

Ottawa, Ontario  – The Canadian group is ready to start team event at the 2013 Pan-American Championships, after the singles and doubles events concluded on Tuesday in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The Team Competition starts today, where Canada’s young but energetic group is hoping to surprise some of their more experienced opponents. The Canadian team is made up of Men’s National Team members Dane Sharp and David Letourneau, along with five-time Canadian University Champion Graeme Schnell. The women’s side includes defending Canadian Champion Sam Cornett, Canadian Junior Champion Hollie Naughton, and Canadian Championships bronze medalist Nikole Todd. Squash Canada Performance Director Jamie Hickox is with the team in Argentina as head coach. The event concludes on Sunday, September 8, 2013.

SQUASH CANADA UNVEILS CHANGES TO ITS OFFICIATING PROGRAM

OTTAWA (ON) – Earlier today, in collaboration with its Provincial/Territorial Squash Associations Squash Canada unveiled significant changes to their officiating program.  Among the changes made to the program is the creation of a new competency based structure to certify officials across all levels of the officiating pathway as well as the rebranding of Squash Canada’s certification levels.

In addition, Squash Canada and its Provincial/Territorial Squash Associations unveiled a new online certification course to certify coaches at the club level.  The first level of Squash Canada’s revamped officiating certification program has been rebranded “Club Referee” and replaces the previously used “D” level designation.  The training for Club Referee is available via Squash Canada’s learning channel http://coursepark.com/squashcanada.

SQUASH BC'S NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Jordan Abney comes to Squash BC from Edmonton but he is returning to BC where he was born and raised. While in Edmonton, Jordan completed two degrees at the University of Alberta. He has an extensive sports background. Jordan is a certified coach (NCCP) and has vast coaching experience at the local and high performance levels. He has worked for the Alberta Schools Athletic Association as an Assistant Director, was the Director of Athletics at Grande Prairie Regional College, and most recently as the Sports Manager at the Royal Glenora Club in Edmonton. Also, Jordan is a keen squash player and looks forward to seeing many of you on the court!

SQUASH ALBERTA'S NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Welcome your new Executive Director Stephanie Buchan.  Stephanie comes to Squash Alberta from Wrestling Canada where she was the High Performance Manager.  Stephanie herself was an elite athlete and coach in that discipline.
