Team Event Preview – WSF World Junior Championships

    Eindhoven (NLD) – The Individual event concluded today, with top seed Diego Elias winning the Men’s event 3-0 (11-6,11-9,11-8) and Egyptian (2) Nourna Gohar taking the Women’s title by defeating countrywoman and 1 seed Habiba Mohamed 3-1 (11-6,7-11,11-7,17-15). Congratulations to both Diego and Nouran!

    The focus now shifts to the Team event, which runs from July 31-August 4. Canada is featured in Pool A, with tough competition with number 1 seed Egypt. Full Pool details can be found below:

    The competition in their Pool will provide a great test for the Canadian Women. Canada will play the 13/16 seed, South Africa, first on Friday at 2:30pm local time or 8am EST. On Saturday, the girls will then play the 9 seed, Switzerland, which will be a tough battle. That match will be played at 12:30pm local time (6:30am EST). The Canadians’ third match will be against the top seed, Egypt on Saturday at 7pm local time or 1pm EST. The top two teams from each Pool will advance to the elimination round.

    Canada’s team will comprise of Maddie O’Connor, Sophie Mehta, Grace Thomas and Chloe Chemtob. Tara Shannon, who competed this week in the Individual competition, will not be playing in the team event, as she was named Team Alternate following the Women’s World Junior Trials in May.
