Squash Canada announces changes to selection criteria to two major international events.

2018 Senior Women’s World Team Championships
The Women’s Open event at the 2018 Canadian Championships has been designated as the 2018 Women’s Senior World Team Trials, and the PSA Ranking cutoff date has been set for May 1, 2018.

These criteria have been revised for 2018 only due to abnormal timing of the 2018 edition of the Women’s World Team Championships.  On February 14th the World Squash Federation announced that the event is confirmed for September 11-16, 2018 in Dalian, China.  Per WSF Regulations and historical scheduling, this event normally occurs at the end of November, early December.

Squash Canada’s selection criteria had outlined the following selection process/sequence:
    1. Top 40 PSA ranked players
    2. Winner of the most recent Canadian Squash Championship Open Division
    3. Any remaining spots to be filled via a Team Trials

The criteria identified the results cutoff date as ‘4 months prior’ to Worlds with a Trials typically held 3 to 4 months prior.  Given the abnormally early date of this year’s Worlds and the impracticality of calling for a Team Trials in May, shortly after the Canadian Squash Championships, those championships will now double as the Trials.  Click HERE for the amended selection criteria.

    2019 Pan Am Games
A consideration has been added for selection of the 3rd Male and 3rd Female to the next Pan Am Games, which will occur in Lima, Peru, on July 26 to August 11, 2019.  The selection committee will consider the player’s individual PSA Rankings and Canadian Squash Championships (singles) results, unchanged from previous, but now also consider Previous doubles results, experience, doubles technical and tactical abilities, and complimentary partnerships
