Quebec and Ontario Claim 2013 Men’s and Women’s Team Titles

     

    OTTAWA (ON) –  The host team and the defending silver medalists were crowned champions this past weekend at the 2013 Canadian Men’s and Women’s Team Championships. The Canadian Men’s Team Championships took place at Club Sportif MAA in Montreal, where the host team from Quebec improved on last year’s 4th place finish to capture the gold. At the Women’s Team Championships, held at Victoria Squash Club in Victoria, BC, Team Ontario found redemption on their 2012 silver to claim the 2013 title.

The Canadian Men’s Team Championships took place at Club Sportif MAA in Montreal, where the host team from Quebec improved on last year’s 4th place finish to capture the gold. At the Women’s Team Championships, held at Victoria Squash Club in Victoria, BC, Team Ontario found redemption on their 2012 silver to claim the 2013 title.

    Men’s Champions Team Quebec, comprised of Shawn Delierre, David Phillips and Jason Delierre, defeated Ontario 2-1 in the final match. This was Ontario’s second year at the silver position, as they lost to Alberta in last year’s final. Yesterday’s gold medal match came down to the final pairing of the teams’ number three players, where Quebec’s Jason Delierre beat Tyler Hamilton of Ontario 12-10 in the fourth to secure Quebec gold.

    The defending champions from Alberta finished their weekend with a win in the bronze medal match, defeating Manitoba in 2 straight matches.

    Across the country in Victoria, Team Ontario members Stephanie Edmison, Seanna Keating and Micaala Seth came into the event hoping to improve on the silver medal performance at the 2012 event in Halifax. Improve they did, claiming the title as 2013 Investor’s Group Women’s Team Champions after defeating Saskatchewan 3-0 in the final.  All of the participants played some great squash this weekend, especially Team Ontario member Micaala Seth, who did not lose a game all tournament.

    Alberta made it two bronzes on the weekend, with their women’s team winning the third/fourth place playoff. Team Alberta beat the defending champions from Quebec in the third match, winning 2-1.

    The 2013 Canadian Squash Championships calendar continues this weekend with the 2nd annual Canadian Junior Doubles Championships, which are taking place at the Granite Club in Toronto. The Vancouver Racquet Club will play host to the 2013 Master’s Team Championships the following weekend, January 18-20th.
