OTTAWA  – The 2014 Xerox Canadian University and College Squash Championships were held this past weekend at Northfield Racquet and Fitness Club in Waterloo, Ontario. Over 60 student-athletes represented 22 post-secondary institutions from across the country, participating in various Men’s and Women’s divisions.

In the top female division, the Women’s Open draw, second-seeded Alix Younger of Winnipeg Technical College claimed the title after defeated top seed Jaycee Spagrud of the University of Regina in four games (11-8, 7-11, 11-5, 11-2). This was 21-year-old Younger’s first national title.

In the Men’s Open, Andrew Schnell came into his first Canadian University and College Championship following in the footsteps of older brother Graeme, who was last year’s graduating Champion, his fifth Canadian University title. Andrew, a 22-year-old student at the University of Calgary, was the top seed in the draw and looking to claim a Championship of his own. He did so without dropping a game, defeating tournament dark horse Roman Svec from the University of Victoria 3-0 in the final (11-5, 11-1, 11-7).

Other divisional winners from the weekend include Andrew Chong (Men’s A, University of Guelph), Mabel Low (Women’s A/B, University of Toronto), Chris Ling (Men’s B, Brock University), Ben Sinai (Men’s C/D, University of Waterloo), Allie Pittiglio (Women’s C, McMaster University), and Rupangi Mehta (Women’s D, University of Toronto).
