Stephanie Hewitt and James Hewitt successfully defend title at 2010 Stabren Canadian Mixed Doubles Championships
MARKHAM, Ont. – The husband-wife team of Stephanie Hewitt and James Hewitt of Toronto successfully defended its title on Sunday at the 2010 Stabren Canadian Mixed Doubles Squash Championships which was held this weekend at the Mayfair Parkway Racquet and Fitness Club. The Hewitts defeated Jody Warden and Chris Deratnay of Toronto in the deciding match for the title 15-5, 15-3, 15-4. There were four teams in the open competition and the tournament was played in a round robin format with each pair facing each other once. The Hewitts and Warden-Deratnay had both won their first two matches. ‘’The matches are usually a lot closer when we play Jody and Chris,’’ said Stephanie Hewitt, a former national team member. ‘’But we just played really well today. We were coming off a tough match on Saturday and I think that fired us up for the final.’’ The Hewitts opened the tournament Friday defeating Kirsteen Burton and Jeff Andersen in straight games, then won in four on Saturday over Adriana DiMauro of Toronto and Fred Reid of Markham, Ont. Warden and Deratnay were awarded the silver while DiMauro and Reid took the bronze.
