Canada's Shahier Razik loses in final at B.C. Open squash tournament
RICHMOND, B.C. – Shahier Razik of Toronto lost to Eric Galvez of Mexico on Sunday in the championship final at the $15,000 B.C., Open men's professional squash tournament held this week at the Sport Central Fitness Club.
The competition was an event on the Canadian Squash Circuit for the 2008-09 season as well as a stop on the men's pro circuit (PSA).
The final pitted the top-two seeded players and the number-two Galvez took the match 3-0. Both players were coming off hard fought semifinals on Saturday. Razik was competing in his third pro final this year and looking for a second victory.
''He simply had more in the tank than I did today,'' said Razik, who did not play on the pro tour most of the summer due to a leg injury. ''The semi took a lot more out of me than I expected and I just couldn't keep up. Still it was my best tournament since September but I would have really liked to win at home.''
The Canadian Squash Circuit is a national tour consisting of Men's PSA and Women's WISPA sanctioned events across Canada. Canadian players compete for points in the Canadian Squash Circuit standings, which culminate with a year end Grande Finale between the highest point earners from the Men's and Women's Circuit. The Canadian Squash Circuit's goals are to provide Canadian squash players with an opportunity to play at a high level of competition within Canada and to increase the level of awareness of squash in Canada.
The 2008/2009 Circuit will also feature stops in Ottawa ON, Saskatoon SK, Vancouver BC, Richmond BC, Calgary AB, Edmonton AB and Winnipeg MB, Montreal and Halifax. For more information please visit http://www.squash.ca/e/can_circuit/index.cfm.
